Performancing With Quills (offline blog editing)

Performancing works

I was thrilled to discover that Performancing (a really slick Firefox extension for rich content editing) works great with Quills.

"But wait," I hear you asking: "Kupu is so great, why would I need a separate editor for my Plone blog?"

Well, it's true that Kupu is great.  (All hail the glory of Duncan Booth and his many co-contributors!  Long may they prosper!)

But often, when I'm blogging, I want to cut and paste stuff from a bunch of webpages.  What's cool about Performancing is that it shows in the bottom of my browsing window, and I can surf all over creation while writing an entry.  Then I can come back to my blog when I'm done writing.  That's convenient.  And anything that knocks down the barrier to writing makes me more likely to do it.

Performancing also adds in a bunch of useful features that a Plone blogging tool oughta support -- things like burying Technorati tags in your post and pinging services like Ping-O-Matic and PingoAt.

Good stuff, eh? So how do I configure Performancing to write to Quills?  Most simple.

  1. Add your blog, then "manually configure" it as a "custom blog" using the "MetaWeblog API."

  2. The API URL is just the URL of your blog (in this case http://theploneblog.org/blog)

  3. Check "Advanced Settings" then put in the API key that Quills shows you on the main page of your blog when you're logged in.

  4. Enter your Plone username and password.

Boom!

Login works only with Zope admin, not with my usual Plone user

After I managed to find the api key of my Quills blog (the template I used did not render it) I realized (after some trial and errors), that I cannot login to Performancing (like you desribed) with my default Plone user (which has manager role). With my "global" Zope admin user I have no problems at all. Hmm ...?

Works for me

Jurgen,

It's working for me, logging in as a normal "manager" user. You probably want to make sure you're running either Quills 0.9 svn trunk or the new Quills 1.5 beta release -- MetaWeblogAPI support in these is much improved, i.e. working.

It works now!

I have just finished upgrading to Quills1.5b1. When I use my "manager" user, everything works fine, although I had same issues by leaving out a post title in Performancing's editor and posted a blog entry. Quills took one of my existing posts (!) and applied the new text but left the old title. Performancing should not allow to post when no title is given. But it's a great tool, after all.

Oops

I was too fast with my last post here. After upgrading to beta1 I cannot login via MetaWeblog API. I verified this on a fresh Plone installation BTW. :(
