Jon Stahl: Congrats to the Joomla!Days Team...

Filed Under:

... for selling out 125 seats for Joomla!Day West, to be held May 12-13 at Google HQ in just a few days.  Looks like it's going to be "un-conference" (e.g. community-organized sessions) style.

Who is going to step up and organize a North America Plone Symposium this year?  I'm guessing we could get space at Google. ;-)

Jon Stahl: Documentation and E-Commerce Sprint

From Joanna Springsteen comes the long awaited, "official" announcement of the Documentation
and E-Commerce sprint.

For all the details, please visit:

and

There is still room for a few more participants, and the organizers are still actively seeking sponsors.

Jon Stahl: When Slashdot Attacks

Filed Under:

Discover Magazine's new Plone-powered website just got Slashdotted.  Looks like this already-busy site is handling the traffic spike just fine.

Perhaps predictably, the article Slashdot picked up on is about mapping links in the blogosphere.

Jon Stahl: Eight Plone Projects Funded by Google Summer of Code!

Google's Summer of Code program announced their projects today, and the Plone community had eight accepted projects.  Each student will receive a stipend of $4500 to support a summer's work on their project.

The projects are:

by Hanno Schlichting, mentored by Martin Aspeli

by Sidnei da Silva, mentored by Lennart Regebro
by Ramon Navarro Bosch, mentored by Martijn Pieters
by Derek Richardson, mentored by Florian Schulze
by Dave Fowler, mentored by Wichert Akkerman
by Joscha Krutzki, mentored by Alexander Limi
Genesis: Next Generation of ArchGenXML
by Vidar Svansson, mentored by Reinout van Rees

Congratuations to all of the students, and thanks to all of the mentors.  I'm excited for all of these projects, but I must confess, I'm particularly excited by the prospect of some focused attention to Quills, the commenting infrastructure and syndication.

Jon Stahl: Varnish: The Shape of Things To Come?

Filed Under:

Alan is excited about Varnish (a new caching proxy that is simpler and faster than Squid).  Even better, the Varnish developers are planning a CMS best practices document

Great stuff.  I hope that setting up insanely fast caching for Plone is about to get a lot easier!
